Quinoa

Quinoa is a grain that is not only a rich source of plant protein, but also is a great source of group B Vitamins. Let’s see how shall we use it not only for ourselves but also for our furry family members.

Quinoa is a great source of Minerals and Micronutrients Utritiens. 150 grams of cooked Quinoa contains approximately: 47% of Manganese, 28% of Copper, 27% of Phosphorus, 22% of Magnesium, 14% of Iron, 13% of Zinc, 7% of Selenium, 5% of Potassium, and 2% of Calcium.

In terms of Vitamins, this ancient grain is very impressive: 8% of Proteins and 10% of Fiber. It also has low glycemic index of 35 and glycemic load of 8.35 (which makes it great for people and dogs with diabetes). Quinoa is a great source of Vitamins B: 11% of vitamin B1, 8.6% of vitamin B2, 3.6% of vitamin B3, 5.5% of vitamin B5, and 12.9% of vitamin B6. Quinoa is also rich in Folate (18%) and vitamin E (8.1%).

As you can see, quinoa is a very healthy grain for both humans and dogs. Here are some Tipps on how to make quinoa even more enjoyable.

Whenever you boil meat on bones for your dog, make sure to keep the broth on the side. In this broth you can cook quinoa for your furry friend. Make sure that for dogs it is better to overcook quinoa rather than undercook, it will be much easier for them to digest and to absorb all important vitamins and nutrients.

Please note, if your dog has problems with Pancreatitis, Diabetes, or Sensitive Digestion, better to cook quinoa in a plane water and feed in moderations.

When it comes to humans, we have greater variety of broths we can use for cooking quinoa. I personally prefer to cook it on a broth made out of scraps of vegetables. It give a wonderful taste.

Quinoa is wonderful not only as a side dish, bust also as a complete dish itself. You can chop frech cilantro, mint, dice tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado and add slices of slightly grilled peaches. Season with lemon juice, table spoon of Apple Cider Vinegar, Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Walnut Oil, add salt on your taste.
